Neonatal anesthesia: how we manage our most vulnerable patients
نویسنده
چکیده
Neonates undergoing surgery are at higher risk than older children for anesthesia-related adverse events. During the perioperative period, the maintenance of optimal hemodynamics in these patients is challenging and requires a thorough understanding of neonatal physiology and pharmacology. Data from animals and human cohort studies have shown relation of the currently used anesthetics may associate with neurotoxic brain injury that lead to later neurodevelopmental impairment in the developing brain. In this review, the unique neonatal physiologic and pharmacologic features and anesthesia-related neurotoxicity will be discussed.

Reducing the risk in neonatal anesthesia.
Neonatal anesthesia is fraught with potential risk for the patient and stress for the anesthesiologist. Where possible, recognition of these risks, avoidance of, and being able to manage them appropriately, must impact positively on perioperative outcomes in this vulnerable group of patients. Good communication with the parents, as well as with other healthcare providers, is crucial to safe and...

Introduction: Intraoral synechia is a rare congenital condition, generally associated with other maxillo-facial malformations. We present a neonate with congenital intraoral bilateral synechia without any other facial anomalies. Case Report: In this paper, we present a 19-day-old male neonate with congenital intraoral bilateral synechia without any other facial anomalies. We review the litera...
متن کاملProblems of Cold Agglutinins in Cardiac Surgery: How to Manage Cardiopulmonary Bypass and Myocardial Protection
Cold agglutinins are of unique relevance in cardiac surgerybecause of the use of hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Cold autoimmune diseases are defined by the presence of abnormal circulating proteins (usually IgM or IgA antibodies) that agglutinate in response to a decrease in body temperature. These disorders include cryoglobulinemia and cold hemagglutinin disease.Immunoglobulin M aut...
متن کاملبررسی میزان آگاهی (awareness) در طی بی هوشی عمومی جهت سزارین در بیمارستان های آموزشی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی مازندران در سال 83-84
Background and purpose: Awareness during general anesthesia is a frightening experience that often causes patients to panic and feel helpless even when there is no pain and no feel of body movement and manipulation by the surgeon. Awareness monitoring is still complicated and controversial. Now a days this is based on electroencephalography data such as the bispectral index (BIS) or spectr...
متن کاملHOW PHYSICIANS MANAGE SEIZURE DISORDERS IN INFANTS AND CHILDREN: A PILOT STUDY
To see which medical specialties usually manage seizure disorders in infants and children, a random survey was done among 105 such patients referred. These patients were most frequently seen by a pediatrician (n= 44, 4 1.9%), general practitioner (n=34, 32.4%), and hospital house staff of general and pediatric emergency rooms (n= 2, 19%) in the area surveyed. A correct diagnosis of seizure ...
